How does DynamicFont choose which characters it "bakes" into the bitmap from a TTF font?

My font works well otherwise, but all non-ascii character (for example 'ä' and 'ö') are invisible. I assume the characters are missing from generated bitmap. The font definitely contains those characters (checked in Gimp).

My bad. The characters are actually missing from the font. Gimp just replaced them with characters from some other font..
