Can't use remotetransform2d on control node, despite claims of documentation

The documentation claims that a remotetransform2d can be applied to any node than inherits canvastitem; control node inherits canvasitem, and yet a remotetransform2d cannot be applied.

I must be doing something incorrect, here, but I can’t identify what it is…

If the documentation states that, then the documentation is wrong! The remote path has to refer to something being (or being derived of) a Node2D, see here.
